Baseball, jazz & blues at the Muse and more!

The Belfry Theatre is holding a party and roast to celebrate Paddy Stewart’s 34 years of service to the Belfry and for his ascension to “Chair Emeritus”. Paddy joined the Belfry BoD just as it was making the transition from a presenting company to a producing company and has been at the helm ever since. “In keeping with Paddy’s cowboy roots, hay bales will form the basis for the decor and we are suggesting guest bring out their best Western duds for the event. There will be a barbeque and Victoria supergroup The Bills will be performing. Dancing is expected.” Tickets are $75.00 and can be reserved by calling the Belfry Box Office at 250-385-6815.

Our very own Victoria Seals are at home this week, going up against Orange County on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Friday and Saturday the Seals take on Calgary again, also at Royal Athletic Park. Be sure to make time for some exciting baseball while you’re enjoying the last of your summer vacation.

The Muse Winery (formerly the Chalet Estate Winery) is hosting an evening of blues and jazz on August 22, featuring the Heather McLeod Trio (Piano, Saxophone and Trumpet), nibblies by Taste of Life Catering and wine samples from the winery. Doors open at 6:00pm, Wine Tasting is from 6:00 to 7:30 pm and Concert from 7:30pm to 10:00pm.
Call 250-656-2552 for further details. Tickets are $30.00 each and seating is limited.  Just the thing to start your getaway vacation here in goregous Victoria.

If marketing is more your speed, then be sure to check out the myriad of markets around town:

The Oak Bay Night Market – every third Thursday of the month – that’s this Thursday, the 20th of August. Area merchants will host special events and promotions, artists, artisans and craftspeople will display and sell their wares in a parking lot across from Oak Bay City Hall. Farm Market produce will be sold on Wilmot Street in front of Ambrosio Market. Family activities will also take place from 5:00 – 7:00pm, including face painting and a magic show.

Every Wednesday, rain or shine, from 4-7 pm, there’s the Colwood Farmer’s Market, out at the Juan de Fuca rec centre. Check out the fresh farm produce, the wonderful crafts and textile arts, and the entertainment.

Don’t forget the Government street market just at the MacPherson Theatre every Sunday afternoon – an eclectic collection of all kinds of treasures, music, people and food.

The Moss Street Market runs all summer and part of the fall – every Saturday from 10am to 2pm, rain or shine, until October. The market is located on the Sir James Douglas School grounds at the corner of Moss and Fairfield. Not just a farmer’s market, this is reviewed (juried) crafts, handcrafts, and music – come out and enjoy the event!

Whether you’re here for a night or for a week, or longer, there’s lots to do in Victoria at the height of summer vacation. Be sure to check out the downtown night life, the Causeway performers and the fascinating crowds around the inner harbour, and in the downtown core. And remember that the Admiral Inn is on the harbour, so when you need somewhere to lay your head for the night, we are your downtown harbour accommodation.
