The Race, the Mayhem and the Splash getaway

If you’re planning on being in Victoria this August 7 & 8 weekend, you might want to check out Western Speedway’s Weekend of Mayhem. Featuring demo cars, bombers, demo trucks, mini figure 8s and monster trucks the weekend promises to be full of excitement and, on Saturday night, destruction. Gate opens at 5 pm, tickets $20.00 for adults, discounts for seniors and children.

Sandown Raceway, the horse racing track north of Victoria proper, has announced that due to the economic dowturn, they will not, this year, be featuring live horse races. Simulcasts will continue Wednesday through Saturday.

And, if you happened to miss Symphony Splash this year, despair not. We have a wonderful, quick video of the event, courtesy of Tourism Victoria’s webcam, and you can reserve now for next year. The Admiral was sold out on the night, so if you want to experience one of the best and best known (people come from all over the world just for Symphony Splash) musical events of the year, book now! If you stay with us, you can sit on the balcony in complete comfort, sipping wine and listening to Maestra Tania Miller and the talented musicians of the Victoria Symphony Orchestra play such favourites as Elgar’s “Pomp and Circumstance March #4″, Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue”, William’s “Theme from Star Wars” and perhaps Victoria’s all time favourite, the music you hear in the video below: “The 1812 Overture” by Tchaikovsky. Cannon fire in the performance was provided by the Rainbow Corps, the Royal Canadian Sea Cadet corps in Victoria.

Remember, the Admiral in is your vacation accommodation in the heart of downtown Victoria, adjacent to the inner harbour, and within minutes of all of downtown.
